Matten Memorie (Mat Memory)
The doormat is both literally and figuratively the threshold between our private and public spaces. To explore the notion of “home” in a playful and collective way, “Matten Memories” invites strangers to become “matties” (Dutch for “mates”) and design their own unique doormat — the kind that would make interior design stores jealous.
Once the sketching is done, their challenge is to create two mats that are as identical as possible, because their set becomes part of a large-scale Mat Memory game.
This collective work forms a giant tapestry that transforms public space into a shared “home.”
Installation and workshop made for RAUM
Also given at Abbemuseum's Radically Mine
